The Empress & The Gardener
Hampton Court Palace, 2015
This exhibition of 18th-century drawings by John Spyers, the draughtsman of celebrated landscape gardener ‘Capability’ Brown, provide a comprehensive record of the palace’s parks and gardens at the time. The drawings sold to the anglophile Empress Catherine the Great of Russia in the 1780s were recently rediscovered in the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, and returned to Hampton Court Palace to be displayed for the first time. 3D design by Mowat & Co, lighting design by DHA.
